(KPL) The United States of America has supported and assisted the Lao PDR’s development of sustainable and environmentally-friendly hydropower projects in the country and especially projects located on the Mekong River.
American Ambassador to the Lao PDR Daniel Clune gave an interview to local media on the occasion of the visit to the construction site of the Don Sahong Hydropower Project on Monday. The United States has had more than 100 years of experience developing sustainable hydropower projects so the US hopes to share those experiences with the Lao government to help address any concerns raised by domestic or international agencies and to minimize possible negative impacts during development and electricity generation.
The objectives of the visit to the construction site of the Don Sahong Hydropower Project were to monitor the progress of the development, to learn more about the project, and to identify aspects in which the United States could support or assist, he said.
“We will try to seek specific experts from the United States to support Laos to minimize areas of concern, especially fish migration and sediment flow over the dam in order to ensure that the project is carried out in line with international standards and sustainability,” said Ambassador Daniel Clune.
