(KPL) The Chalernsub Group has been preparing surveys for possible small-scale hydropower projects in five rivers in the central province of Borikhamxay.
The five rivers include the Nam Thouy in Thaphabath district, the Nam Pan, Nam Yala, and Nam Cham in Xaychamphone district and the Nam Chuan in Viengthong district.
The Borikhamxay Provincial Planning and Investment Department and the ChalernsubGroup have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct feasibility studies on the projects.
The Chalernsub Group is considering building projects with 15-megawatt installed generation capacity on each river and expects that after completing studies onenvironmentalimpacts and economic assessments, the company will begin construction immediately. The studies are expected to be completed in around 18 months.
These projects will contribute to the development of infrastructure in the local areas, improving the living conditions of local people and spurring commercial production.
The MoU was signed on April 5 in Borikhamxay Province between Director ofBorikhamxay Provincial Planning and Investment Department, Mr Phonethilath Sitsathone and Director of the Chalernsub Group, Mr Kasurnsak Keoxayavong, in the presence of Governor of Borikhamxay, Mr Kongkeo Xaysongkham and relevant official of both sides.
